This is a great option for business meals or with friends for casual dining with fast attentive service. Din Tai Fung is known world wide for its well-executed service and product primarily specializing in “xiao long bao”. While typically there is minimal localization of dishes I found this venue to have made changed a few of the dishes in a couple of ways. Firstly was the substitution of pork filling for chicken – while I was at first dubious about whether the same flavor and juiciness could be achieved with chicken I was proven wrong at the very first bite of my “xiao long bao”. The second localization was that of some of the standard cold dishes such as “tofu with beans and black fungus” normally this is a cold dish but in this instance it came warm. I wasn’t sure what the reason was for this change however. However what brings me back to this Din Tai Fung again and again are also couple of the other dishes. The “Dan Dan mian” is incredible – great freshly made noodle texture with a thick peanut sauce. Adding in some of the great chili sauce and fresh ginger makes this a real winner in my opinion. Another dish I think is well executed is the crispy friend chicken with sweet/ sour sauce – “gu lao ji”. It’s actually quite difficult to get the right crispiness and absorption of sweet/ sour taste and this is done particularly well. The menu has a wide assortment of Chinese food and so far I have not come across any dish that I would avoid.
