Decent, unauthentic Japanese fare
The best thing about Hamabe is the ambiance, although they could turn down the A/C a bit. As for the food, the dishes I tried were all quite below expectations. The spicy tuna roll (prepared by a local Indonesian) was paired with ultra-salty soy sauce making for an overwhelmingly salty/spicy maki-eating experience. The hot soba tempura noodles were way over-cooked, but the soup was still flavorful enough. The chicken gyoza (why such a thing??) was dry and bland. It really needed that thin sauce to give it any taste. Be careful to dip in too much as it’s also super salty!
